The Importance of a Child Car Seat

Choosing a car seat for your newborn child is an extremely important task. Car seats vary in price and quality. Obviously nobody wants to waste money, but you need to make sure you still get a quality seat. Searching for a car seat can take a large amount of time and effort, especially if you want to make sure you're getting your money's worth.

In the event that you ever end up in a crash, you'll want to make sure that you child is a safe as possible. Now... what makes a good car seat?

For one, a good child car seat should have enhanced safety features for both rear and front collisions. These types of collisions are the most common, by far. Bucket style seats with a low center of gravity are great since they reduce the rolling motion of the car seat and reduce the degree to which the child is swung forwards or backwards.

You still want to make sure, with any car seat, that the seat is built and tested well to handle side collisions. Some of these features include deep side and head wings and a barrier around the sides of the head and torso (to help shield the child from flying objects in a crash).

Finally, it's always nice to get a car seat that is comfortable for your child. If you expect to be spending any length of time in your car with your child, you should look for seats with soft lining.

Over the past year, I've spent a fair amount of time looking for a car seat for my second child. In the end, I decided on the Britax Marathon 70. This seat has a great set of designs and, most importantly, is extremely safe and comfortable for my child. Also, the Britax seats are a well known quality brand and are worth every penny spent!
